Jim Al-Khalili presents Horizon Special

Tuesday 10 January 2012

Horizon Special "The Hunt for the Higgs" was shown on BBC2 on Monday 9th January

This Horizon special went behind the scenes at CERN to follow one of the most epic and expensive scientific quests of all time: the search for the Higgs particle, believed to give mass to everything in our universe.

Jim Al-Khalili followed the efforts of particle physicists at the Cern research laboratory near Geneva, Switzerland, to find the Higgs particle, which is believed to give mass to everything in the universe. He explained why scientists believe discovering it could help answer fundamental questions about the nature of existence, and revealed why their theories are based on the idea of symmetry.

Reviewed by Radio Times:

“Horizon explains, for those of us not blessed with a finer understanding of particle physics, what’s going on. Horizon is good at exploring such things, and in Jim Al-Khalili, they’ve got just the man for the job. At heart, he tells us, it’s all about symmetry.”
