Applications to do undergraduate Physics up 39%

Wednesday 1 February 2012

As of the end of January, we have had a 39% increase in applications to study BSc and MPhys degrees in Physics compared to last year.

Despite a slight drop in the overall number of applications to do physical sciences this year, we have had almost 40% more applications to study physics. The total number of applications to study all degrees at all English University's is significantly down this year, after last year's record numbers, and the number applying to do physical science degrees is down a little. So physics and chemistry are doing better than most subjects but we are doing much better again. The popularity of physics is put down to the 'Brian Cox effect'. Maybe, but the effect of our admissions team of Silvia Pani, Jim Al-Khalili and Gemma James, looks a lot stronger. We have some busy UCAS days coming up.
