New Astrophysics research group at Surrey
Thursday 10 January 2013
Professor Mark Gieles joins the department as the first member of the department’s new astrophysics research group

During 2013 the department is investing in 6 new staff to form a new research group in observational and computational astrophysics, with an emphasis on stellar dynamics and Milky Way formation and evolution. Mark Gieles joins us from the Institute of Astronomy at the University of Cambridge and his work focusses on dynamics of dense stellar systems. “It is an incredible opportunity and a very exciting challenge to build an astrophysics group at the University of Surrey!".
The new research group will also support the department’s undergraduate teaching in astronomy and nuclear astrophysics - find out more about our BSc and MPhys programmes in ‘Physics with Astronomy’ and ‘Physics with Nuclear Astrophysics’ here, including our unique MPhys Research Year and Professional Training options.
