CNRP seminar being offered across SEPnet partners by Prof Jim Al- Khalili at Surrey via video-conference

This talk will be a general review of the physics of charmonium spectroscopy. The discovery of the J/psi meson (and hence confirmation of the charm quark) in 1974 has been one of the most important successes of quantum chromodynamics (QCD). Professor Zhao will discuss present interest in this highly topical area based on the feature that this is an interplay between perturbative and non-perturbative QCD scenarios.

Qiang Zhao was an EPSRC Advanced Research Fellow at Surrey (2004-2009) where he worked closely with Jim Al-Khalili and Frank Close (Oxford). In parallel with this, he was appointed as a full professor at IHEP in 2005 and took over as group leader of the Nuclear Theory Division there in 2006. He is now based in Beijing.
