Dr Imogen Parsons, formerly of the UK's Stabilization Unit gives a Politics Research Seminar entitled: International Intervention in Afghanistan External Aspirations Local Perceptions

Dr Imogen Parsons will discuss the impact of international intervention in Afghanistan, and the way in which the intentions and actions of international actors interact with the local context and dynamics to produce sometimes unexpected results.

International intervention in Afghanistan has had mixed results, varying between different areas and over time. Outcomes have not been readily predictable, but largely determined by the local context and realities in which intervention takes place. Local perceptions and relationships are critical, though often largely imperceptible to international actors - and very hard to change. The real impact of intervention has therefore diverged from ambitions and expectations.
