Dr Maxine David awarded Vice-Chancellor's Teaching Excellence Award 2012
Wednesday 25 April 2012
Dr Maxine David, Lecturer in European Politics, has been awarded this year’s Vice-Chancellor’s Teaching Excellence Award.
The award seeks to recognise and reward staff who demonstrate sustained excellence in teaching and who are engaged in innovative approaches to curriculum development, both designed to enhance the student experience at the University of Surrey. The Award is an integral part of the Surrey Learning and Teaching Strategy. Professor Gill Nicholls, Deputy-Vice-Chancellor Academic and chair of the selection panel noted the strength of the field and the exceptional work of those who were invited to discuss their approaches more fully with the panel.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Christopher Snowden confirmed his support for the panel’s decision and commented on Dr David’s strong case for teaching excellence evidenced by a variety of innovative approaches to enhancing student learning, specifically her focus on problem-based strategies to encourage students’ independent and deep learning, and on using collaboration and peer review in face-to-face and on-line environments.
Dr David will be presented with the award at the summer congregation ceremony for the Faculty of Arts and Human Sciences.
The final shortlist also included Dr Simon Usherwood from the Faculty of Arts and Human Sciences, Dr. Dawn Duke from the Library and Learning Services, and Dr. Spinder Dhaliwal from the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law.
