Thursday 31 May 2012

Dr Simon Usherwood, Senior Lecturer of Politics at the University was the winner of the Nanoteach prize at the Inaugural Conference of the Higher Education Academy’s Social Science Cluster, held in Liverpool on 28-29 July.

Dr Usherwood was given two minutes to present a simple idea to help others teaching, before the delegates made their choice.  Beating off competition from sociologists with toothpaste and educationalists with QR codes, Simon’s idea used post-it notes to get a much enriched feedback from students.

In the spirit of the conference, Dr Usherwood has made an online version of his Nanoteach which can be seen in the video above. On being awarded a place at the Higher Education Academy’s national conference in July and £250 in book tokens, Dr Usherwood said: “It is always great when you make a connection with those you are sharing ideas, and it is especially gratifying to have won when so many other great presentations were buzzing around the room.”
