National Student Survey Success for the Faculty of Arts and Human Sciences

Monday 24 September 2012

Several subjects within the Faculty of Arts and Human Sciences have seen significant rises in the 2012 National Student Survey (NSS).

Politics (96% overall satisfaction) and Music (98% overall satisfaction) now top the table in their respected disciplines whilst Dance, Sound Recording, Creative Writing and Psychology all make into the top 10 in their areas.

The NSS is a national initiative, conducted annually. The survey runs across all publicly funded Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and the majority of HEIs in Scotland.

Students are given the opportunity to give positive and/or negative comments on their student learning experience and the results are used to help prospective students and advisors make informed choices of where and what to study. The results are also used internally within universities to facilitate best practice and enhance the student learning experience.

 Further Information:

  • Two subjects in first position overall: Music, Politics
  • Five subjects in top 10 overall: Psychology, Politics, Dance, Music and Creative Writing
  • Six subjects in top 10 of research-intensive universities: Psychology, Sociology, Politics, Dance, Drama, Music
