Success of 'Any Questions?' event

Thursday 31 January 2013

The University of Surrey’s School of Politics hosted BBC Radio 4’s Any Questions? in the Ivy Arts Centre on Friday the 25th of January 2013.

Jonathan Dimbleby chaired the panel which was composed of Secretary of State for Local Government and Communities Eric Pickles MP, Shadow Justice Minister Emily Thornberry MP, Independent Energy Expert Cornelia Meyer and The Telegraph journalist Charles Moore.

The event quickly sold out with the audience comprised of all sections of Guildford’s community, including local schools, political parties, members of the public and the staff and students of the University of Surrey. The event was part of BBC broadcasting history and for the first time it was possible to watch the show over the BBC website.

Martin Cox and Joshua Langley, students from the School of Politics and Dr Laura Chappell, Lecturer in European Politics, were chosen to put their questions to the panel. As a result Jonathan Dimbleby joked that the event was being broadcast from ‘the centre of politics’. The event was a cross University effort and huge thanks are paid to all teams involved in creating such a successful event.
