Biography

Colin Griffin is a Visiting Senior Fellow in the Department of Political, International and Policy Studies, having been for many years in the Deparment of Educational Studies.

Before then, he had been a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at Kingston University, a Senior Counsellor with the Open University, and a Senior Lecturer in Education at the Gloucester Institute of Higher Education. For many years he was also a tutor at Hillcroft adult education college, sharing appointments with the University of London Department of Extra-Mural Studies and the University of Surrey.

He has extensive experience of adult, further and higher education, and has been a Visiting Professor in both Canada and the United States.

Research Interests

His research interests lie mainly in the areas of curriculum theory and policy analysis of lifelong learning, and he has written, translated and edited several books and articles in these and other fields. He was involved in research projects over many years with the Learning From Experience Trust and the Centre for Research in Lifelong Learning at the University of Surrey.

Publications

He is a member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Lifelong Education, and recently he was joint editor with Peter Jarvis of Adult and Continuing Education: major themes in education (5 vols. Routledge 2003)
