My name is Ransford Stanley and I studied Politics and International Relations with First Class Honours at undergraduate level.
I chose to study an MA in European Politics, Business & Law (EPBL) at The University of Surrey for a number of reasons. First, the EPBL degree is unique to the University of Surrey because it combines three disciplines into one degree. Therefore, I knew immediately that the EPBL course was the one for me.
Second, the lecturers at the University of Surrey are truly outstanding. I was taught by academics who are actively engaged in their field with substantial experience. Moreover, they were very approachable, welcoming, and interested in providing support whenever we asked. This support really enhanced my student experience at the University of Surrey and helped me to flourish in my course. In addition, the lectures were very well planned, engaging and intellectually stimulating. I thoroughly enjoyed our seminar class debates, discussions and presentations. In fact, the insightful discussions we had in class encouraged me to attend several talks by leading academics hosted by the University of Surrey. So my studies at Surrey were never dull because there were always things to do or get involved with such as, the Students’ Union or countless careers workshops organised throughout the year.
Third, the University of Surrey offers many opportunities to students. For example, I was awarded a fee bursary which really helped me in my studies; I was also a Student Representative for the School of Politics which involved attending Board of Studies meetings twice a year, and liaising between students and the Postgraduate Director.
I would encourage anyone wishing to do a degree to consider The University of Surrey because it is truly a distinct and distinguished institution. The student support services are excellent, the diverse student population makes it an exciting place to learn and share, the pristine Guildford location is absolutely remarkable, and the passionate academics make it even better. Overall, it’s been great being part of the Surrey experience.
