Postgraduate study

How to apply

How to apply

You can apply online once you have decided which of our programmes is right for you. We recommend making an application as soon as you can, even if you do not have all the necessary supporting information ready at that time.

When to apply

Owing to the competition for places, applicants are advised to apply as early as they are able; the number of places on each programme is limited. Overseas applicants should note that if accepted by the University of Surrey, entry clearance to the UK can take a considerable amount of time and therefore applications should be made as early as possible.

Although the University of Surrey does not have a deadline for the receipt of applications for graduate study, we recommend that you check with the department relating to your application as there may be a specific deadline for the programme you are applying for.

Please allow up to six weeks (eight weeks for research programmes), from the date of our first email acknowledgement to you, to receive confirmation of our decision on your application.

Preparation

You can access the online application form from the individual course pages, where you can set up a user name and password. This allows you to stop and save what you have already entered at any point and return to it.

It is expected that applicants for research degrees will have discussed their topic of research with their proposed principal supervisor prior to making a formal application.

You can upload any supporting documents you have stored on your computer, providing they are under 2mb (if not, you can email or post them to us once you have submitted your application). The following documents are suggestions of what you might wish to upload:

• CV
• Degree transcripts
• Degree Certificates
• English language certificate (if English is not your first language)
• Personal statement

If the department require anything further from you, they will let you know when reviewing your application.

MSc Psychology programmes

Please note that in addition to completing the standard online postgraduate application form, applicants for MSc psychology programmes should also complete a departmental application form, which gives us a better idea of your Psychology background and interests.

PsychD in Psychotherapeutic and Counselling Psychology

Please note that in addition to completing the standard online postgraduate application form, applicants for this programme should also complete a course-specific application which gives us information we need in relation to a Practitioner Doctorate. Please visit our School web page for more details and the application form.

The deadline for applications for September 2012 entry is 3 February 2012.
