The EngD in MiNMaT is a four-year postgraduate award intended for researchers who aspire to key leadership positions in industry. The programme is designed to develop specialist scientific/ technical knowledge whilst working on the sponsor company’s commercial research priorities.
Programme Overview
The research engineers associated with this programme are part of an Industrial Doctorate Centre (IDC) which provides an innovative and transformative research environment in materials science and engineering. The focus of the centre is the solution of academically challenging and industrially relevant problems, which have at their core the processing–microstructure–property relationships that are the cornerstones of the discipline. A unique feature is a focus on characterisation, including hands-on experience, through access to state-of-the-art instrumentation.
The majority of the research element will be undertaken at the sponsor’s premises. Research engineers return to the University to attend other elements of the programme such as short courses, conferences and seminars.
