Advanced Decision-making in Dementia: how Familial Carers Balance their Needs with Those of the Person with Dementia
Supervised by Adrian Coyle, Lada Timotijevic and Monique Raats
I am studying part-time and working as a nurse at the Royal Surrey Hospital. I am particularly interested in how people with dementia and their familial carers make decisions about their future care provision, particularly around how they decide when help is needed from external agencies and when care at home is no longer viable, and whether the context in which the care is provided is important. I am planning to do a longitudinal study following families from diagnosis of dementia and am especially interested in how families balance their own needs against the person with dementia’s.
I have worked in both general hospital and mental health settings and worked with people with drug and alcohol problems in the past. I have spent the last 11 years working in Accident and Emergency, and for the last 2 years I have also had a role as a trainer for safeguarding vulnerable adults.
I am on the editorial advisory board for Emergency Nurse Journal and have had several articles published in the journal including work done as part on my MSc looking at drink spiking in young women.
