Biography

I studied Psychology at the University of Salzburg, Austria and the University of Auckland, New Zealand and graduated with a focus on cognitive Neuroscience and clinical Psychology in 2011. Next to my studies I worked as Psychologist in a psychiatric hospital and in a 24 hour care unit for therapy resistant schizophrenic patients.

Since October 2011 I am studying for a full-time PhD in Psychology/Neuroscience at the University of Surrey under the supervision of Prof. Paul Sauseng and Prof. Annette Sterr and am part of the Brain and Behaviour Research Group. My research is funded by a departmental bursary from the School of Psychology.

Research Interests

In my Masters research I used EEG to look at Working Memory processes in positive and negative symptomatic schizophrenic patients and healthy controls.

My main area of interest is Neuroscience but as I also have a clinical background I am always keen on bringing these two together. The focus of my PhD research lies within the domains of memory, executive control and attention. More specifically, I am interested in the interaction of Working Memory and Long-term Memory and how this is monitored by the central executive component. I am utilising electroencephalography (EEG), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) to examine how these cognitive processes and their interfacing are represented in the human brain by analysing cortical oscillatory activity in various functionally specific frequency bands.

Teaching

As recipient of a departmental bursary I am part of the academic tutorial team. Within this role I essentially mentor a group of first year undergraduate students. I am responsible for marking their essays across their entire first year and tutor them in how to be an academic (reading, writing, referencing, critical thinking, etc.). Furthermore, I provide one to one feedback on every essay and am available to them via e-mail at any time and offer drop in sessions if needed.
