Biography
I was born in Lythrodontas, a small town close to Nicosia, Cyprus. Growing up in a small community, where everybody knew everybody, gave me the opportunity to get to know the people around me better, which made me more curious about the human nature. This is why I decided to study Psychology. I studied at Aristotle’s University, in the beautiful city of Thessaloniki, Greece. Even before the end of my undergraduate studies, I felt that I wanted to go further, so I applied for a master’s degree in Health Psychology at the University of Surrey. After completing my MSc, I applied for a PhD in Health Psychology, setting yet another goal that I’m eager to achieve. I am currently in my second year of my PhD.
Research Interests
I was always interested in the human brain, because in my opinion it offers endless opportunities for research and exploration. My research focuses on the experiences of people who have suffered a brain injury, either from a stroke, accident or brain tumour, and who have managed to return to work. Using qualitative methods, I will try to explore the interpretations and perspectives of the people with brain injuries, which in turn can lead to more person-centred rehabilitation practices. My supervisors are Dr. Dora Brown and Prof. Annette Sterr.
Teaching
I am currently a tutor for undergraduate Psychology students at the University of Surrey. Tutorials involve teaching first-year students basic academic skills, such as essay writing, referencing and critical evaluation, and marking essays. I have tutored the first-year APS students from October 2009 until March 2010.
