Biography

After completing my undergraduate degree at the University of Southampton I studied for a PGCE in post-compulsory education and training at the University of Portsmouth.  On completion, I took up at position at an FE college teaching Psychology and Health Care to students studying for A-level, BTEC and adult education qualifications.  I have since held positions in several FE colleges, Sixth-form colleges and schools.

I took a break from my teaching career to study full-time for my MSc in Health Psychology at Surrey.  Working under the supervision of Prof Jane Ogden I undertook research to identify the active ingredients of effective health promotions adverts and their role in predicting memorability and behaviour change.  I have remained at Surrey where I am continuing this work as part of my PhD.  My research focuses on the role of visual images in our understanding of associated health claims presented on health promotion material, food labels and health supplement packaging.

Supervisors: Dr Robert Nash and Prof Jane Ogden

Teaching

I am currently a tutor on the undergraduate academic tutorial programme.  This role involves teaching first-year students basic academic skills, such as essay writing, referencing and critical evaluation.
