Thesis Topic: How Do People Evaluate Evidence in Employment Disputes

I am currently doing my PhD in Occupational Psychology.  The jurisdiction of the Labour Court to decide disputes between employees and employers is an important judgement process and a core activity of the Department of Labour. There is much research on decision making on simple tasks, yet how decisions are made by experts about complex problems is less well understood.

This research will investigate how these complex decisions are made in the real world settings by the labour officers by looking at how they reach those decisions; develop a method to help them to use the act more accurately; and measure again whether they improve their ability in judging labour cases with guidance of the decision tool.

My Supervisor is Dr Adrian P Banks.
