Details

Obesity surgery is currently the most effective form of management for obese patients with a BMI>40 and leads to weight loss and weight loss maintenance.

Not all patients, however show the desired amount of weight loss and qualitative work indicates that they often feel that their psychological issues remain neglected.  In particular, many obese people report issues with emotional eating, coping,  other addictions and mood post surgery which undermine their weight loss attempts.  This study is a randomised control trial to assess the impact of psychological support post surgery on improving weight loss.  It is funded by RfPB for 3 years and based at the bariatric surgery clinic at Chichester.
