Invitation to a 'RESEARCH EXCELLENCE FRAMEWORK 2014: Equality Issues in Research Careers' talk
Tuesday 27 November 2012
Equality Issues in Research Careers
Presented by Dr Simonetta Manfredi & Professor Lucy Vickers from the Oxford Brookes University
The REF 2014 (& RAE 2008) are by definition highly selective processes and have brought into focus the importance of promoting equality and diversity in research careers. This seminar will present the findings from research commissioned by the Equality Challenge Unit (ECU) to investigate the processes adopted by HE institutions and panels in making decisions about inclusion of staff in the 2008 RAE. These recommendations have been included in the guidance developed for selection of staff for the 2014 REF.

Invitation to attend the 'Annual Fellowships Strategy' presentation
Wednesday 5 June 2013
You are warmly invited to attend the 'Annual Fellowship Strategy' presentation on Thursday, 6th June 2013.
The presentation will take place at Wates House, 1st Floor, First Room & Gallery, starting at 10:00 with registration and refreshments to finish at 11:15.
Over the last 1.5 years there have been a number of changes to the Fellowship Application process by key research sponsors. Institutions are being actively encouraged to demand manage and monitor the quality of applications submitted.
In response to this, a University of Surrey Fellowship Strategy has been instigated in October 2011 at the request on the DVC Research and Innovation, Professor Steve Williamson and sanctioned by all Faculty ADRs.
Research and Enterprise Support (RES) have since coordinated the internal bid review process which applies to a number of fellowship schemes run by the UK Research Councils and other major Sponsors.
Details of the Fellowships schemes covered by this internal process can be found on the University of Surrey Fellowships Strategy webpage:-
http://www.surrey.ac.uk/research/fellowships_strategy/index.htm
In order to update you on the new approach and answer any questions you may have, a presentation will be held for all staff.

Monday 10 June 2013
Dear Colleagues,
With the support and assistance of RES, the Research Design Service South East (RDS SE) will be running a Research Support Workshop for staff and NHS Trust members, tailored specifically to applications to the NIHR (National Institute for Health Research).
The Workshop will take place on Monday 10th June between 10.15 and 2.00pm at the University of Surrey and will be aimed at all levels of academic and research staff who would like to hear an up to date account of NIHR's funding schemes, successful projects and support offered by the RDS team.
This promises to be a really useful workshop for everyone whose work could potentially be funded by the NIHR – but particularly with those of you who would like to hear more about the help and guidance offered by the RDS team.
