Invitation to a 'RESEARCH EXCELLENCE FRAMEWORK 2014: Equality Issues in Research Careers' talk
Tuesday 27 November 2012
Equality Issues in Research Careers
Presented by Dr Simonetta Manfredi & Professor Lucy Vickers from the Oxford Brookes University
The REF 2014 (& RAE 2008) are by definition highly selective processes and have brought into focus the importance of promoting equality and diversity in research careers. This seminar will present the findings from research commissioned by the Equality Challenge Unit (ECU) to investigate the processes adopted by HE institutions and panels in making decisions about inclusion of staff in the 2008 RAE. These recommendations have been included in the guidance developed for selection of staff for the 2014 REF.

ESRC Bid Workshop
Wednesday 17 April 2013
With the support and assistance of RES, FAHS will be running a Bid Workshop for staff tailored specifically to applications to the ESRC. The Workshop will take place on Wednesday 17th April between 1.45 and 5.00pm and will be aimed at all levels of academic and research staff who would like to improve their bidding skills.
The workshop will be led by Rachel Brooks (Head of Sociology) who has made a number of recent successful grant applications and is also a member of the ESRC Peer Review College.
The programme for the afternoon will be circulated at a later date but is likely to include:
- a facilitated workshop session on writing ESRC bids with input from Peer review college members
- Case Studies by staff who have had recent success with the ESRC
- a presentation on the bidding and costing process from RES
This promises to be a really useful workshop for everyone whose work could potentially be funded by the ESRC – but particularly with those of you with limited recent experience of putting a bid together and those of you who are bidding but would appreciate some more help and guidance.
If you would like to attend please email Anne Hrassnigg at researchliaison@surrey.ac.uk by Wednesday, 10th April 2013
