Athena SWAN at the University of Surrey

The University of Surrey became an Athena SWAN Charter Member in January 2012.

Membership gives the University the opportunity to raise our profile as a good employer for academic women in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine (STEMM), as well as the chance to share best practice and support with other members.

The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) has stipulated from 2015, funding will be contingent on University's holding departmental silver awards. Other funders are likely to have similar requirements in the future.

Institutions must have the University Bronze level award before they can hold a departmental awards. The University of Surrey submitted its University Bronze Award application in November 2012 and has started the process of identifying and gathering information to support departments in their applications.
