29th November 2013 is the deadline for the submissions to the Research Excellence Framework (REF). What can you do between now and then to maximize your contribution to your department’s submission?

This session will consider:

• What exactly the REF comprises and how it differs from the RAE;
• What the implications are for the individuals and their research
• In particular, how to devise a publishing strategy aligned to the REF.

Specific topics include: analyzing target journals; tailoring your papers to suit the journals you decide to target; managing publishing timescales; making peer review work in your favour; and accessing and leveraging resources (on campus and online) to support you.

Anthony Haynes is Creative Director of The Professional and Higher Partnership, where he works as an academic editor. He has been visiting Professor at the University of Hiroshima and Beijing Normal University. In addition, he mentors researchers one-to-one on writing for publication at the University of Cambridge, primarily in the Judge Business School and Institute for Manufacturing. Anthony is the author of numerous papers on writing and scholarly publishing. His five books include Writing Successful Academic Books (CUP).
