Speaker Biographies

Dr. Malcolm Parry OBE. Managing Director, Surrey Research Park.

In 1981 Malcolm was invited to  leave his academic post on campus and plan, develop and then manage the Surrey Research Park, currently one of the most successful parks in the UK accommodating over 140 companies and with turnover of over £10m . Malcolm was one of the founders of, and is the current Chair of, the UK Science Park Association. He has sat on the board of the International Association of Science Parks and on their expert panel, has been working as an expert consultant for UNESCO and UNECE for the last seven years and advised a number of governments on developing science parks. He has edited two books on science parks. Malcolm has also started three companies, all of which were taken to revenue generation and then sold. In 2006 he was awarded the OBE for his contribution to business and education.                                     

Dr. MariaLaura Di Domenico Director of the Centre for Advanced Research in Entrepreneurship, Surrey Business School.

MariaLaura is Reader in Organisational Behaviour at the Surrey Business School, University of Surrey. Previously she held academic positions at the Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, the Open University Business School, and the University of Westminster. She holds a PhD from the University of Strathclyde, is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA), a Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (MCIPD), and a Senior Member of Wolfson College, University of Cambridge. MariaLaura's research is focussed on entrepreneurship, social and community entrepreneurship, small and medium sized enterprises (specifically in relation to family businesses and home/ work boundaries), and organisational sociology.
Her research is published in leading management and social science journals including Human Relations; Organization Studies; Organization; Entrepreneurship, Theory and Practice; Journal of Management Inquiry; Regional Studies; Tourism Management; Gender, Work and Organization; as well as in books and monographs. Her latest book, for which she is Lead Editor, is 'Organisational Collaboration: Themes and Issues', published in 2011 (Routledge).
