The Institute of Business Administration visits SBS
Friday 20 January 2012

Professor G M Chowdhury, Director of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka visited the Surrey Business School on 19 December 2011. During his visit he met Professor David Goss, the Head of Surrey Business School, Professor Jean Chen, Associate Dean (International), Dr Peter Marshall, Director of Student Recruitment, and Osama S M Khan, Director of Undergraduate Studies. The group discussed potential collaboration between the two schools. IBA Dhaka was founded in 1966 and alongside IBA Karachi and the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmadabad, is one of the first three business schools in the Indian subcontinent to offer an MBA programme.
It recruits around 50 students every year to its BBA programme and 60 students to its MBA programme, drawing from a national population of 180 million. Each of the BBA places is contested by nearly 100 applicants. This demonstrates the quality IBA assures in providing world class business education to its students. The Alumni of IBA are front runners in public and private sectors in Bangladesh. Most of the chief executives of the country are IBA alumni. SBS is excited to hold this initial conversation with the Institute. Professor Chowdhury's visit demonstrates SBS's intention to explore emerging markets to source talented students who will be future global corporate entrepreneurial and corporate leaders. The visit marks the beginning of a new era for the University of Surrey, which has an ambition to expand the horizon of business education in challenging markets. Professor Chowdhury visited the University's Manor Park development, the multi-million pound Surrey Sports Park, some of the teaching facilities, and concluded the visit with a Christmas lunch at the Lakeside Restaurant.
