The latest league tables to be published have placed Surrey Business School firmly in the top 10 for its Accounting and Finance programmes. The Sunday Times Good University Guide is one of the only UK league tables to break its rankings down by subject and this year’s edition has placed Surrey Business School in the top 10 for accounting and finance.
“We have a very strong group of academics researching and teaching in this field and that’s being reflected in the league tables,” explained Professor David Goss, Head of Surrey Business School.
Surrey’s accounting and finance programmes have also shot up in this year’s National Student Survey rising to fifth place in a competitive field of 1994 Group and Russell Group universities.
Demand for Surrey’s banking, accounting and finance courses is coming from both undergraduate and post graduate students keen to take advantage of the School’s reputation for developing the employability of its graduates. This year, record numbers of students have taken up the option of a professional training placement , giving them an invaluable twelve months of paid employment with a major employer.
Industry bodies too are acknowledging the strength of Surrey’s teaching. As Professor Paul Guest, Head of Finance and Accounting at Surrey Business School, explains, “This year, the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) awarded our BSc Accounting and Finance programme exemptions for all five exam papers on their Certificate level qualification and two exam papers from their Operational level exam papers. Surrey students will now be automatically given exemptions by CIMA and will not need to individually apply for them.”
