Mini-Conference strengthens research collaboration

A mini-conference at University of Sao Paulo in Brazil, focusing on entrepreneurship and innovation, corporate governance, internationalisation and sustainability was organised in March 2012 by Dr Jane Hemsley-Brown (Associate Dean International) as part of the University Global Partnership Network (UGPN). Academics from Surrey Business School, the Centre for Environmental Strategy (FEPS) and Research and Enterprise Support (RES) delivered papers at the three day event which took place from 19 to 22 March. Hosted by University of Sao Paulo, the Surrey academics were joined by speakers from North Caroline State University (NCSU), who presented papers on the same research themes.
Impressive league table rise

Subjects from across the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law have shot up in The Guardian’s Good University Guide for 2013. The league table shows Tourism and Travel has retained its number 1 spot at the top of the table, Economics has moved up ten places to 7, Law has moved up 9 places to 34 and our business and management programmes have moved up 12 places to 34. Overall the University has moved up to 12th place.
Marketing and Retail Group well represented at CERR, Paris

The inaugural Colloquium on European Retail Research (CERR) took place at ESSCA, School of Management, Paris, May 3rd and 4th. The University of Surrey is represented on the organizing committee of the Colloquium, and Marketing and Retail Group members; Professor Andrew Alexander, Dr James Bell, Dr Jason Sit and Professor Christoph Teller attended to present their retail research to an audience drawn from across Europe.
The next CERR is scheduled for 2014 at the University of Bremen.

SEDTC Studentships Announced

The South East Doctoral Training Centre (SEDTC) Selection Panel met on 27 March and have announced a number of studentships. Gustavo Mellior, School of Economics, and Lynn Beard, Surrey Business School, have both been granted studentships. Congratulations go to them and the staff that have worked hard throughout this process including Prof Mark Saunders, Prof Giovanni Forchini and Dr Caroline Scarles.
The SEDTC is accredited by the Economic and Social Research Council and provides high quality doctoral supervision as well as encouraging and supporting innovative and high impact research. Studentships can be used to cover fees, maintenance and field research and are worth up to £20,000 a year.
