Finance and Accounting Group Research Students

The Surrey Business School PhD in Accounting and Finance (A&F) offers a doctoral programme to foster research excellence and scholarship. Our graduates are trained for careers in top academic institutions as well as leading public/private organisations around the world.

A PhD in A&F has a minimum registration of three years full time. Students are usually required to take some taught courses in the first year to train them in theoretical and empirical research methods in their subject area. They are also required to participate in the research activities of the group such as attending the weekly seminar series. We also encourage students to participate in leading conferences around the world and there is funding available to this end.

We look for evidence of strong and consistent academic performance and expect applicants to have high grades at undergraduate and post-graduate levels including a strong post-graduate dissertation. We also look for a high level of commitment evidenced by a personal statement and references. 

In designing and undertaking your research project, you will be advised by a first and second supervisor both with expertise in your research area.
