Professional Qualifications for Students

Our programmes provide the opportunity for our students to work towards professional qualifications in accounting and finance. To facilitate this, our undergraduate programme is accredited by CIMA, ICAEW, and ACCA, and we also provide training for the Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA) qualification.

Accreditation for CIMA

This year, the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) awarded our BSc Accounting and Finance programme (from 2012 graduation onwards) exemptions for all five exam papers on their Certificate level qualification and two exam papers (Financial Operations and Performance Operations) from their Operational level exam papers. Details of the exemptions can be found on CIMA’s website.

Accreditation for ICAEW

In November 2012, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) awarded University of Surrey BSc in Accounting and Finance eight (8) Professional Stage Credits (exemptions). Details of the exemptions can be found on ICAEW’s website.

Accreditation for ACCA

In November 2012, the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) awarded the BSc in Accounting and Finance six (6) exemptions. Details of the exemptions can be found on ACCA’s website.

Jacqueline McCartney, our Senior Tutor, is responsible for accreditation.

Training for the CFA qualification

In 2012-13 we are offering our MSc students the opportunity to participate in a three day course providing preparation for the CFA examinations. The course is free and will take place in January 2013. The CFA qualification is a globally recognised financial qualification which should add significantly to our students’ employability. Jane Vessey, our associate tutor, will be the tutor for the course.
