Research Centre for Comparative Studies on Organisational Learning in International Settings (COLIS)

The Research Centre for Comparative Studies on Organisational Learning in International Settings (COLIS) aims to develop and support research in key areas intersecting organisation studies and international management to advance theory and to provide practical insights into learning in international settings.

The Centre is an interdisciplinary research group, incorporating scholars specialised in international management, international HRM, organisational sociology, strategic management and industrial relations. The aim of the Centre is to facilitate the development of world-class, distinctive, highly relevant, interdisciplinary and comparative research based on theories of international management, organisational learning and institutionalism.

In the face of profound restructuring due to globalisation and the need for greater flexibility in management approaches, there is considerable debate on the role of knowledge transferred across societal, organisational, functional, and professional borders.  However, a major part of this debate still adopts a normative approach to understanding knowledge and learning in organisations.  The role of social agency and diversity of societal settings is often neglected from investigations of organisational learning in international settings. Alternatively, our Centre seeks to enhance our understanding of the role of actors, socio-political issues and (trans-)national institutions in processes of organisational learning across social and societal contexts.
