Dr. Michael Wortmann joined COLIS in April 2010. He was previously working as a Lecturer in Retail Management.
Mike Geppert has been elected to serve as a Member of the Board of the European Group for Organization Studies (EGOS), the leading and biggest scholarly association, outside the US, in the field of Organisation and Management Research. He has attended his 1st Board Meting in Lisbon in January.
COLIS welcomed Riitta Birkstedt, who is a doctoral candidate at the Turku School of Economics, to exchange ideas with the members of the Research Centre between April and September 2010.

Conferences
1) Prof Mike Geppert, Dr Ayse Saka-Helmhout and Dr Knut Lange will attend the ICAROS (International Consortium for Airline Research in Organization Studies) workshop at the International Air Show in Berlin on 10-12 June 2010.
2) Michael Wortmann will present a paper at the Single Market and the development of competition in Germany conference in November 2010.
Research Bidding
1) Prof Mike Geppert, Michael Wortmann and Karen Williams have submitted a research proposal on ‘Work and Employment Relations in MNCs in the European Grocery Retail Sector: Discounters and Hypermarkets’ (Amount: € 180,026, Duration: 2 years) for a large grant to the Hans-Böckler-Foundation. The project will compare employment relations and work organisation in supermarkets in five European countries (Poland, Ireland, Turkey, Spain and Germany), in collaboration with local partners in the countries. The funding of this project was secured in November 2009. This work commenced on 4 May 2010.
2) Jing-Lin Duanmu, Ayse Saka-Helmhout, and Knut Lange submitted a proposal entitled ‘Knowledge Transfer within Chinese Multinational Enterprises: An Institutional and Processual Perspective’ to the British Academy (£5,000) in March 2010.
3) Ayse Saka-Helmhout’s proposal (£245,000) together with colleagues at the Free University of Berlin, Bath, Reading, and Sheffield on ‘Comparing Organizations across Institutional Contexts: Developing and Applying Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA)’ is being revised for resubmission to the ESRC in June 2010.
