Study Details

The MBA aims to develop business leaders with vision, knowledge, creativity, skills, ethics and entrepreneurial ability who are able to take an integrated, critically aware, dynamic and strategic view of organisations and play an effective role within them. In applying this combination of knowledge, understanding and skills, graduates should, on their return to professional practice, be able to:

  • Integrate specialist knowledge, theory and practice into a strategic and dynamic overview of the organisation in its environmental context
  • Handle complex business problems systematically, holistically and with originality, insight and critical reflection
  • Exercise sound judgement and communicate conclusions effectively to a range of audiences; recognise the need for, and manage, change
  • Make decisions in complex and unpredictable situations and propose and implement appropriate solutions; work with and, where appropriate, lead teams
  • Perform effectively within a team environment and recognise and utilise individuals' contributions in group processes
  • Be aware of ethical dilemmas likely to arise and formulate solutions in dialogue with peers, clients, mentors and others
  • Plan and implement projects
  • Be self-directed and self-aware
  • Continue to develop knowledge and skills

In addition to the study of individual modules, the School of Management's MBA encompasses three distinctive features, two of which are 'action' case studies and a business simulation.

The action case and business simulation run throughout the year and they provide an opportunity for students to apply skills and knowledge gained in core MBA modules to real world cases, showing the relationship between theory and practice. The action case / business simulation takes the form of a complex computer-based interactive business simulation and a series of real life case studies provided by external business contacts. The third distinctive feature of the School's MBA is that the assessment within the programme is designed to integrate learning across the programme in order to ensure a holistic understanding of management.

Duration: 24 months. Students complete their study through centre-based distance learning. This allows those students based in the Caribbean to study their Masters by a combination of regular workshops and self study. Workshops are conducted by lecturers and tutors visiting from the UK.

Students complete 8 taught modules (120 credits) followed by a dissertation (60 credits).
