Theatre
Research in Theatre Studies
We understand theatre and performance as offering distinctive contributions to theory and, in particular, we look to the ways in which theatre makes a contribution to philosophy.
Theatre enables ways of knowing that are lived and experienced, it affects individuals and their sense of presence, identity, place and belonging, whether this is in classic theatre, contemporary performance or the performance of everyday life.
Throughout our research, we demonstrate that performance is generative, it creates, negotiates and conditions understanding. At times, this understanding may be written, at other times it exists in performance. We are committed to the close, informed and analytical study of the contributions of theatre to knowledge, often in multiple forms.
We are passionate about finding exciting, compelling approaches to research and to actively shaping knowledge and the ways in which knowledge might be developed, articulated and understood.
