What’s on in 2012?
All day Any age No ticket required
Hands-on Zone
AP 1/2
Get your hands dirty in this exciting activity area for all ages. Marvel at optical illusions, make goo and instant ice cream, play with custard and make your own Surrey bugs. There are more experiments for everyone than we can list. Come and try them.
Craft Zone
Physics lab, third floor, BC building
Science isn't all about big expensive machines and fragile equipment, you can do great experiments with a few household objects. The craft zone is a room full of sciencey things to make and build and colour in. Make your own plasticine microbe, or a motorised jitter bug. Maybe you could build a zoetrope or a camera obscura to take home.
The Sun is Waking Up!
On the Piazza
Come and see the surface of the Sun through specialist solar telescopes operated by Guildford Astronomical Society. You should see sunspots and solar prominences, where there are magnetic storms on the surface of the Sun. With this kind of specialist equipment it is perfectly safe, but please remember never to point an ordinary telescope anywhere near the Sun, as serious eye damage could result.
Games
On the Piazza
We not only have your festival favorites of ice cream, burgers and bouncy castle but also GIANT boardgames. Come and put yourself right in the action and blow off some of that energy after your ice cream!

Compare: Steve Cross, university campus 19:30 – 22:00
An open mic night for science communicators.
Take a seat and prepare to be dazzaled as scientists themselves tell you in 9 minutes about what they love and why they love it. In the past we've had everything from live demos to comedy sets, videos to sketches and music to history lessons.
At this special open mic night you have the chance to get up there and tell an audience of like minded people why you do what you do and what you enjoy about science. For more information or to sign up to perform please visit http://www.scienceshowoff.org/
We all look forward to seeing you all at this Spectacular day of FREE FUN!!
