Ian Lacey presents to the Council Meeting of ALVA

Monday 26 September 2011

Having conducted qualitative research into the UK visitor attraction sector as part of the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management’s Knowledge Transfer Partnership with marketing agency, Elliott Marketing and PR, the project’s market analyst Ian Lacey was invited to present to the Council Meeting of the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions held at Tate Modern. Also presenting were Sandie Dawe, Chief Executive of VisitBritain and David Sharpe, Divisional Director of Merlin’s London Midway Attractions.

Ian discussed how visitor attractions are facing increasingly fierce competition for consumers’ leisure time from large retail outlets such as Westfield, must continue to leverage their many unique stories to remain one step ahead in terms of innovative social media, and should seek out every opportunity to engage with the London Olympics despite the twin challenges of probable visitor displacement and restricted public advertising space in 2012.
