Young Achiever Awards

Students from the MSc International Event Management course impressed the judges in the finals of the Young Achievers Awards at the Barbican Centre on 30 April. The prestigious competition challenges students to pitch an event in front of an audience of industry professionals. The Surrey team, Yajie (Katherine) Zhang, JingYao (Evie) Wu, and Chonticha (Ticha) Intapantee, designed a 3 day conference and incentive programme to take place in Davos-Klosters in Switzerland. The bid was presented by Ticha, after which the judges asked Katherine and Evie a number of questions.

Congratulations must go to the Surrey team who impressed the audience with their fluent presentation and their well-informed answers to the questions. After a long deliberation the judges crowned the team from Leeds Metropolitan University the winners – highlighting however that the standard was the highest they had ever seen in the competition.

The award is hosted by the UK and Ireland Chapter of Meeting Professionals International (MPI) and the Switzerland Convention & Incentive Bureau (SCIB).  Students from nine universities were invited to submit a pre-selection video, on the basis of which five finalists were selected. The finalists each represented a Swiss destination and competed in a live bid presentation based on a real-life agency event brief. The judging panel, made up of senior meetings industry professionals, made the final decision on the winning team.
