Triple ESRC and Commonwealth Scholarship Success

The School of Hospitality and Tourism Management is celebrating its success in securing three prestigious, externally funded studentships. Lynn Beard has been awarded an ESRC DTC studentship to study the topic ‘Reconceptualising the host – the role of ‘brokers’ in shaping the tourism encounter’ (supervisors, Caroline Scarles and John Tribe). Claudia Eger has been awarded an ESRC DTC Case-studentship to study ‘Effective Capacity Building within Destination Communities: Tour Operator & Local Community Negotiations’ (supervisors Caroline Scarles and Graham Miller). The latter will be researched in collaboration with Explore Worldwide, the UK’s largest adventure tour operator specialising in sustainable tourism. Batilda Moshy has been awarded a Commonwealth Scholarship to study ‘Pathways to innovation in the tourism industry in Tanzania’ (supervisors, Allan Williams and John Tribe). They join the substantial and vibrant postgraduate communities in the School and Faculty.
