Professor Peter Jones

Biography

After leaving Westminster Hotel School, Professor Jones joined Trusthouse Forte Hotels, before moving to Brussels. After five years there, during which he operated his own restaurant, he returned to the UK to begin a career as a hospitality educator and researcher. For six years he was the Head of the School of Service Sector Management at the University of Brighton, before joining Surrey in 1997. He was the Forte Chair of Hotel Management before he was appointed, in 2000, as the ITCA (International Travel Catering Association) Chair of Production and Operations Management - making him the worlds first ever professor of travel catering. Professor Jones was the founding President of EuroCHRIE in 1991 and former chair of the Hospitality Partnership. In 1997 he received International CHRIE's Stevenson Fletcher Achievement Award, sponsored by Marriott International, for his "outstanding and innovative contribution to hospitality and tourism education". In 2002 he was the recipient of the Nestle Pro Gastronomia EuroCHRIE Achievement Award. He has served as a Member of the Business and Management Panel in the UK’s RAE in 2001 and 2008, as well as on the RAE in Hong Kong in 2006. In 2007/08 he was elected President of International CHRIE.  In 2009/10 he served as Chair of the South East Regional Committee of the British Hospitality Association, and served on the BHA National Executive Committee.  In 2011 he was the recipient of the Michael D. Olsen Research Achievement Award.
