Biography
Susann has completed a dual-degree undergraduate programme in International Tourism Studies and obtained Bachelor degrees from the University of Southern Denmark and Hochschule Harz, University of Applied Sciences, Wernigerode, Germany respectively. Subsequently, Susann graduated with an MSc degree from King’s College London in Tourism, Environment and Development.
In 2006, Susann became Manager of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) Tourism for Tomorrow Awards – a global, sustainable tourism accolade. There, she was also in charge of policy-led research into human resources in travel & tourism and sustainability. Her work introduced her to sustainable and ethical tourism businesses around the world, which would later shape her research interests.
In October 2011, Susann joined the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM) as a Postgraduate Researcher. She is currently the PhD Representative for SHTM. She is also a Member of the UK Tourism Society and Founder of Phronesis Travel Research.
Research Interests
Susann’s research interests are ethics in tourism, entrepreneurship and leadership in tourism and sustainability.
Her PhD subject is ‘Entrepreneurial role behaviour and judgment approaches in the face of ethical dilemmas in a tourism-specific context’. The key research aims are to develop a deeper understanding of axiological approaches of entrepreneurs and the psychological characteristics that shape these approaches. The second aim is to develop a categorisation for ethical or moral business dilemmas in tourism..
