Proven research quality

In the 2008 National Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) Surrey entered the largest research team in the field of tourism and hospitality and was rated one of the top research groups.

All research in the Surrey Business and Management submission was judged to be recognised nationally with 90% recognized internationally, and 60% internationally excellent or world-leading. The profile of tourism and hospitality research was highlighted by the RAE panel who commented that "the majority of world-leading research outputs were submitted from the Organisational Behaviour and Human Resources, and Tourism and Hospitality Management groups". The number of research students was also commended by the panel as being twice the average for these subjects. Esteem recognition was judged to be of a high standard and the panel noted "evidence of international excellence in fellowships, keynotes and plenary deliveries and prizes; and world leading standards in editorship, and advisory roles." Finally the panel commended the engagement with industry and commerce finding it to be "of world-leading standard as is fitting to the strategic aims and disciplines of the School and is especially evident in the Hotel and Tourism Group."

Visiting Scholars

We welcome queries from potential visiting scholars and professors who are interested in conducting a meaningful programme of collaborative work, with the potential to result in high quality outputs or funding applications, with one or more of our academic staff. This extends to supporting high quality applications to international visiting scholar and post-doctoral funding schemes. Visiting scholars are usually charged a small annual bench fee to cover desk space and library access.
