Biography

David Goss is Professor of Human Resource Management and Associate Dean (Research). His PhD, from the University of Kent, dealt with social relationships in small businesses. In 2005 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Linkoping, Sweden, where he has been a visiting professor since 1995. Before joining Surrey he was a professor and Director of Research at Portsmouth Business School.

Research Interests

My research focuses on the nature of social relationships in organizations, primarily from a micro-sociological perspective. I have a particular interest in smaller organizations and in entrepreneurship (which I define broadly) and, in particular, the role of emotions and ritual in shaping action. Previous work has examined issues of disability and illness the workplace. My current work is examining the emotional dynamics of entrepreneurship; I also have a developing interest in the micro-sociology of corruption.
