Biography

Jo Moran-Ellis joined the Department in April 1992. She was previously senior research officer at Hampshire Social Services Department, and prior to that held several research posts. She specialises in the sociology of childhood, and methodological issues in social research.

Research Interests

Her research interests cover issues in integrating methodologies in multiple methods research, qualitative methodology, the study of childhood, child protection, and children's mental health services. She is currently working with colleagues on research into children and resilience.

Professional Activities

Jo was elected Secretary to the Executive Committee of RC53, Sociology of Childhood, International Sociological Association from July 2002-2006. She organised and chaired a Childhood stream at ESA conferences in Murcia, Spain in 2003, Poland in 2005 and Glasgow 2007. Jo was also the organiser and chair of the 'Children and Difference' stream in Sociology of Childhood sessions of the ISA World Congress, Brisbane, Australia in 2002.
