ESRC Seminar Series 'Minding the Knowledge Gaps'

Wednesday 28th January 2015, 10.30 to 17.30
The Abbey Centre, Westminster, London

Final conference of the ESRC seminar series 'Minding the Knowledge Gaps'

The final conference in the two-year long ESRC funded seminar series takes place at the Abbey Centre, Westminster, London on the 28th January 2015.

This series has been exploring gaps in current knowledge about the lives of older lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) people. The conference promises to be a very stimulating and insightful day. The keynote speakers are Baroness Liz Barker and Peter Tatchell, both recognised for their long-standing commitment to and support for LGBT rights. Other speakers will also be addressing the six topics of the seminar of the series: older bisexual lives; intergenerational issues and LGBT people; intersections of ethnicity, culture and religion; resources and austerity; trans ageing; and health, housing and social care.

A further highlight of the day will be an LGBT ageing ‘Question Time’ panel discussion, which includes representatives from Stonewall, Age UK, Trans activist groups, Stonewall Housing, the Open University, Opening Doors London and prize-winning author, Vernall Scott. The day will be rounded off by a poetry reading, preview of the film GenSilent and film of Trans activist and academic Stephen Whittle OBE plus a presentational talk by the writer and performer Clare Summerskill.
