This two-day course provides participants who have existing experience of using focus groups in social research with an opportunity to develop both their facilitation skills and knowledge of this method. We will explore a range of issues, including advanced methods in designing focus group schedules, facilitating focus groups, getting the most out of focus group discussions and analysis of focus group data. Participants will be encouraged to reflect on and share their own experiences (good and bad) of running groups. The use of focus group sessions will provide participants with the opportunity to put into practice the issues explored in the taught part of the programme.

This course is intended for researchers who have experience of running focus groups and wish to develop their existing skills and understanding of the method.
