Following graduation, our doctoral students make a major contribution within the sociology profession.  Many students with a Surrey doctorate are now Professors (including Angela Dale, Marian Fitzgerald, Judith Glover, Dick Hobbs, Ian Jamieson, Gill Jones, Clive Norris, Jane Sandall, Claire Williams).  Among the 45 students who obtained their doctorate between 2001 and 2007, two-fifths are University Lecturers, two-fifths are researchers in higher education, government or other research organisations, and a fifth are in other types of work.
