A collaborative doctoral programme is also available, which enables social researchers to work towards a PhD while conducting a major project in their own organisation, supervised jointly by a Department member and a senior researcher in their workplace, and submitting a streamlined thesis. The Sociology Department has good links with research organizations and government departments, which are facilitated through ESRC-funded CASE awards. Applications for CASE funding are made through the South East Doctoral Training Centre.
