A Community of Scholars

We have almost 60 doctoral students. Full-time students complete in three years and are mainly funded through ESRC awards, including CASE, through the South East DTC, and overseas scholarships. Approximately half of our doctoral students study part-time, completing in four to six years. Part-time PhD students combine doctoral study with paid employment, with many working as researchers in government departments, NGOs and the NHS. The Department has extensive experience of supporting part-time doctoral students, who have access to office facilities, receive special library support, and are encouraged to participate fully in workshops and seminars.
