MSc Criminology, Criminal Justice and Social Research (full time and part time)
The MSc Criminology, Criminal Justice and Social Research at the University of Surrey combines modules on academic criminology and the criminal justice system with training in the full range of qualitative and quantitative research methods. This combination of analytic criminological knowledge and applied research skills ensures that students have a sophisticated understanding of the key issues, problems and perspectives in contemporary criminology, enabling them to pursue successful careers in academia, policy research and as practitioners in the criminal justice system. The unique emphasis on research methodology means that our students are able to think logically and in an informed manner about criminological problems, and are able to design, conduct and manage effective research on such issues.
Bursaries for 2012/13 entry
One bursary of up to £3,000 will be available for each course, to be awarded on a competitive basis to self-funding students accepting an offer of a place on the MSc for the academic year 2012/13. Bursaries will be paid in the form of a fee remission of the appropriate amount, and will be open to both home and overseas students. Part time students will be eligible to apply and if successful will receive a bursary which is reduced pro rata but may be continued for a second year of study subject to successful completion of the first year.
Application process for bursaries
The closing date to be considered for bursaries is 8th June 2012. All students who have applied for the academic year 2012/13 by this date will be asked to indicate if they wish to be considered for the bursary competition. Eligible applications will be assessed on grounds of academic merit regardless of whether applicants are full time or part time and whether they hold home or overseas status. The application process normally includes an interview, which will contribute to the assessment process for the bursary competition to complement written information and evidence provided with the standard University application form. Applications will be evaluated by a committee comprising MSc Programme Directors and Head of Department or a nominated deputy.
It is our intention to notify successful applicants by 6th July 2012.
