Institute of Sound Recording (IoSR)
The Institute of Sound Recording (IoSR) is part of the Department of Music & Sound Recording (MSR), in the Faculty of Arts & Human Sciences (FAHS), at the University of Surrey. It is responsible for world-class research in audio-related subject areas, and offers postgraduate research-based MPhil and PhD programmes, as well as being home to the world-famous Tonmeister™ BMus undergraduate degree course in Music & Sound Recording. The Institute works very closely with the Music side of the Department, and shares undergraduate taught music modules and also performance and practice facilities. All performances organised by the Department are recorded by Tonmeister students. The Institute also has close ties with the Departments of Electronic Engineering and of Psychology. The main offices of the Department and of the IoSR are located in the Nodus building which is number 2 on the campus map; the studios are in the PATS building (5 on the map).
