Marco Balia

President / MSc. in International Event Management

Marco is a positive and enthusiastic person who likes to enjoy life to the fullest. He enjoys challenges and keeps developing himself by always trying to give his best. He is passionate about events management and hospitality in all their aspects including creativity, dynamics and team work. Marco loves networking and socializing with new people. Marco's hobbies include going out with friends, cooking, volleyball, sea life and travelling!

 

Fabienne Freiin v. Dörnberg

Vice President / BSc. (Hons) Tourism Management

Travelling and exploring other cultures has been Fabienne's passion from a very young age.  After a 3 year apprenticeship at the hotel “The Ritz-Carlton, Berlin” she started her Tourism Management degree at the University of Surrey in September 2009.  Since the start of her studies she has been part of the STES committee. Her aims for this year are to develop the society further and offer students a rich and long-lasting experience.

 

Katarína Miháliková

Treasurer / BSc. (Hons) Tourism Management

Kate enjoys being a part of STES as she annually contributes to the society. In her first year, she served as a tourism Students' Rep, in her 2nd year as Treasurer and as a final year she keeps the same position. Being involved in STES helps her do what she likes most - traveling, organising, meeting new people and applying tourism theory in practice.

 

Johannes Sréter

Director of Industry and Alumni Relations / MSc. Tourism Development 

After graduating from a Swiss hospitality management school, Johannes began to focus on the development side of tourism which brought him to Scotland for his BA in International Hospitality & Tourism Management. He then spent some time travelling to various tourism development projects and working for NGOs as well as governmental organisations. Through his travels, work and academic experience Johannes has been able to develop and maintain a growing network in the hospitality and tourism sector which he will now use as an Officer of Industry and Alumni Relations of STES.

 

Cassandra Copeland

Officer of Industry and Alumni Relations / MSc. International Event Management

Cassandra is from California. She has come to Surrey to complete her education by studying an MSc. in International Event Management. Cassandra has been doing events for the past 4 years, from Hollywood film premiers to intimate weddings. The event industry has become her passion. Cassandra is this year’s new Director of Industry and Alumni Relations for STES and is excited to make this year a great one.

 

Rachael Dunlop

Officer of Industry and Alumni Relations / BSc. (Hons) International Hospitality and Tourism Management

Rachael is a first year IHTM student from Glasgow, Scotland. When Rachael first got here, she felt like she was a long way from home, but Rachael has had a lot of fun so far and has met some amazing people. However, she has been wanting to get involved in something other than the foam parties, which is why Rachael joined STES, and now she can't wait take on her new position as Officer of Industry and Alumni Relations. She believes it is going to be a fantastic year!!

 

Kylie White

Director of Marketing and PR / MSc. International Event Management

It's Kylie White from the United States! Kylie received her BA in International Studies with a minor in Public Relations from the University of Southern Indiana. She is currently studying her MSc. in International Event Management and currently works as a team leader for Court Life Mentoring as well as an Outreach Ambassador. Kylie is looking forward to being a part of the STES committee this year and working with all the great people who have joined the society!

 

Diana Rusu

Officer of Marketing and PR / BSc. (Hons) Tourism Management

Diana is currently a level 2 Tourism Management student and her biggest passion is definitely organising events. Diana is enthusiastic and loves working with people, hence why she is involved in plenty of activities at the university such as events coordinator for Bright Futures and societies exec secretary.  Travelling is her other great love and for her, it represents the greatest adventure one can have. A mix of that, music, dance, theatre and friends is the perfect recipe for her student life.

 

Laura Cummings

Students' Representative / BSc. (Hons) Tourism Management

Laura is a second year Tourism Management student from Northamptonshire, England. Laura has been studying tourism since the age of 16 and find it to be fascinating and hope to pursue a career in the industry. Laura has experience in the hotel and hospitality industry as well as work experience in travel agency. Her key interests in the industry are events, airline management and impacts on society caused by tourism.

 

Ben Walker

Trip Co-ordinator / BSc. (Hons) Tourism Management

Ben is a Level 2 Tourism Management Student and new to STES this year. Ben enjoys travelling and photography, with his ultimate aim being to have photographed at least a small part of every continent by the time he is 30 (Just 1 to go)! He is also a part of St. John's, currently undergoing first aid training and is one of the academic reps for Tourism Management. As the new trip co-ordinator, Ben aims to provide all members with a trip to remember in 2011/12.

 

Patricia Pupek

Advisor and Immediate Past President / PhD in Tourism

Patricia joined the University of Surrey in 2008 and shortly after became the founding president of STES. After serving as President for 3 years, Patricia moves on to be an advisor to STES. She aims at strengthening the base of STES further in order to provide students with a memorable and lasting experience at Surrey outside the lectures.

 

Sammy C. H. Li

Advisor of Industry and Projects / PhD in Tourism

Sammy joined the University of Surrey as a PhD Researcher in July 2009. Besides his academic venture, he has also developed an extensive network in the tourism sector through his professional career. He is now serving as an advisor to STES on industry related issues. Sammy is a keen traveller and has visited over 45 countries. His ambition is to explore at least one new country every year.
